Photo by me in the mountains of Colorado near Boulder.
Background
I began this job right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, finding the position while still living in Michigan working a few Miscellaneous Jobs. This meant the start of my job was completely remote, with me not meeting any of my coworkers or clients in person for over a year of this job.
University of Colorado Boulder is a large, public university in Boulder, Colorado. My job was for the Student Affairs Department, meaning I worked with a variety of student services including health care, intramural sports, student activities, mental health services, and food services.
Essential duties
Edited and managed the content of CU Boulder Health and Wellness websites, which collectively had over 150,000 monthly page views.
Within a Drupal-based content management system, simplified, reorganized, and redesigned websites to make them easier to navigate.
Reviewed existing webpages for ADA compliance, ensuring WCAG standards, and updated them when necessary.
Helped with the planning and execution of social media campaigns.
Used Google Analytics to track the success of webpages and updated them accordingly.
Wrote, designed, edited, and disseminated newsletters to over 40,000 patrons using Salesforce.
Responded to local crises such as the Marshall fire and the 2021 Boulder shooting by communicating resources available for members of the CU Boulder community.
Built webpages to promote virtual programs as students learned from home.
Collaborated with team members using Microsoft Teams, Google Suite, Zoom, and other applications.
My favorite part
My favorite part of working at CU Boulder was being a part of higher education once again. Some of the best parts of my life were in college, graduate school, and even earlier parts of high school. There is something truly rewarding about working with and supporting young people who are passionate about learning.
From a professional standpoint, this was the largest team I had been a part of at the time. This taught me about collaboration on a larger scale, working to the strengths of individual team members, and the importance of building time for teammates to review work.
