Background
When I was a freshman at the University of Iowa, I joined Ed on Campus, a club for those interested in the journalism industry (more specifically magazines) that happened to be filled with mostly female students. At my first meeting, the Communications Coordinator for HerCampus--a student at Iowa--was looking for interesting writers.
After a semester writing for Nicole and standing out as a dedicated member of the staff, Nicole trained me and, eventually, handed over the reigns to me.
Essential Duties
- Managed a staff of ten writers
- Organized, scheduled, and ran meetings
- Doled out and approved assignments for the writers in my staff
- Wrote the columns "From a Guy's Perspective" and "Letter from the Editor"
- Edited articles and images for publications, uploading them online after completion
- Approved and started promotions for the magazine
- Recruited new writers from the University of Iowa
- Found and trained my own replacement, replenishing the staff
my favorite part
I loved the unique challenge of writing for a female audience. I was lucky to have so many women to work with to help me choose the best subjects.
